I first visited Pirtle's when I first moved to the city in 2003 and I had not been back since until last week. I noticed the high marked reviews and I wanted to reacquaint myself to make sure that my one time experience wasn't just a fluke. I had livers, fries, biscuit and the chicken of course. The livers were ok, the batter had fallen off, so I got the strong liver flavor that I usually don't get with fried livers. The fries were fine, just packaged fries. This biscuits were cold and dry. However, the chicken did earn this place an extra star. The chicken had really good flavor, was juicy and a good crispy skin. If you are in the area, it is worth a try; unfortunately, it isn't worth the drive to go out of your way.

No matter which Jack Pirtles I go to, the food is always great. Especially the chicken tenders. I've ate fried chicken tenders from what seems like every place that serves them. Not many places can match these chicken tenders. Do yourself a favor and try this place.

Crispy, fresh fried chicken that wasn't heavy or greasy. The biscuits are small portions but fluffier than they appeared. Coleslaw was cold and crisp but nothing special. We took it as carry out so reviewing the fries isn't really fair because they never hold up when you take them further than an in-house table.

Jack Pirtle's was some of the best fried chicken I have ever had. It was KFC beat by a mile. I especially enjoyed the tasty chicken gravy which was an accompaniment to the chicken ,french fries and rolls. The happy hour price between 2-6 is a great bargain for a meal, sweet tea and apple pie. I'm normally not much of a fan of fast food but for a great southern take on a quick meal this does the trick. Well worth checking out if you are in Memphis.
